The Secret To Writing The Best Instagram Captions (TEMPLATE INCLUDED!)
It's not a secret anymore. Here's what you're going to do to make your captions more engaging for your audience. I've even included a template at the end of this post that you can use to easily make this type of caption on your own. My name is Megan and I help business owners go from confused to confident on Instagram. I teach my clients to build a loyal community, get quality clients from Instagram, and build a more profitable business. So the secret to an engaging caption is… storytelling.
Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to make sales online for your business. Bringing storytelling into Instagram captions can significantly enhance your post engagement and connect with your audience on a more personal level. I'm going to go over exactly how to incorporate the elements of Storytelling into your caption, but first let's go over a couple reasons why storytelling is so important.
So story telling creates an emotional connection with your audience. So the more experiences, challenges, or aspirations you include into the narrative, the more trust and loyalty you're going to build within your audience. These stories also really demonstrate your value and your impact. So instead of merely listing out all the features or products or services that you have, you want your story to demonstrate how your business has positively impacted real people's lives. And storytelling also sets your brand apart. When trying to stand out against all your competition online, telling a story will allow you to share your brand's vision and journey which will then attract customers and clients who align with your business values. Okay, so let's move into incorporating storytelling into your actual caption.
Okay, so first things first, in your caption you want to start with a hook. Beginning your caption with an attention grabbing hook really draws in your audience and makes them keep reading. This could be a compelling question, a really captivating statement, or even the start of a really short story. The ultimate goal is to have people stop scrolling and start to read your caption. So then you move from the hook into your engaging narrative. Think of this as essentially the body of your caption and you're using it to, again, tell that story relating to your brand, your business, or customer experiences. Focus on something that is a relatable experience or a problem you solved or a customer's journey of working with you. The goal here is to really appeal to people's emotions. Because emotions play such a crucial role in storytelling and in purchasing, you can see why they really go hand in hand here. Bringing your clients and customers along on this emotional rollercoaster of a story with you is how they're going to keep reading until the end and feel like they know you so much better by the time they finish. You also want to use pretty vivid descriptions while you're writing. Think of painting a picture with your words so you can actually immerse your audience into this story and they can picture what's going on in their heads. Finally after you're done with your body you'll want to include a call to action which I actually recommend putting at the end of every caption but the storytelling caption is no different when it comes to that. A call to action or CTA is a clear and actionable step to take after reading your caption. This generally encourages engagement. Things like liking, commenting, sharing but it could also be things like DM me, or click the link in my bio. Don't forget that the goal here is to really humanize your brand and your business, so don't be afraid to share more detail than you think and it doesn't have to be perfect. You're connecting with your brand on a deeper level and, newsflash, no one's perfect so if you're demonstrating all the mistakes you made, but what you learned from it, you're really going to build trust while also demonstrating the value of your products or services. Don't forget that Instagram does have a limit on the amount of characters you can put in your caption and that is 2,200 characters so don't go over that or you won't be able to write anymore. Another tip is to consider using line breaks and adding in some fun emojis to keep it interesting and really draw the eye.
