The Perfect Instagram Bio For Business Owners

If you want the perfect Instagram bio that'll attract all of your dream clients, then you're in the right place. I'm about to tell you exactly what you should be putting in your Instagram bio as a business owner. Read until the end if you wanna see the easiest way to have your bio make the biggest impact. My name is Megan and I teach business owners to go from confused to confident on Instagram. I help my clients build a loyal community, get quality clients, and make their business more profitable. Let's get started. First, we're gonna take a deep dive into the elements you need to have a professional bio. Make sure take notes because you'll need every single one of these features in order to have the perfect bio.

First. I will go over what should be in your header. This is right above your bio and is actually searchable on Instagram so you want to make sure you're using keywords. So what to put in your header should be first your name followed by your role. While your username should be your actual business name, your header should be what you actually do in your business. So for example, mine is Megan, Instagram strategist and coach, and my business name is Megan D. Consulting. So that's the difference between all of those. Let's get into your bio. The things we go through might seem like basic business information, but remember there is a character limit. Instagram only allows for 150 characters in your bio. So the key here is really using the space allotted in the most effective way possible. The first thing you need to write out is who you help.
Of course you're going to want to make this as specific as possible while keeping it as short as possible. Try keeping it to one or two words. So maybe your target audience is busy, professional women that have kids and a full-time job. But instead of listing all of that out, you'd wanna say something along the lines of 'full-time moms.' You really want to nail down how exactly you help them. So you may have many products and services that you help your clients with, but try to stick to one or two of them, either the one that's most profitable for you or the one that's most popular for you. For example, if you have a list of 10 different services that you offer, just choose the ones that bring in the most income for you or the ones you enjoy doing the most. Then you want to make sure you know exactly what the client or customer is getting from working with you. Think of this less as the actual service or product they're getting, but the feeling or transformation they're getting from working with you or buying your product. So instead of saying you help them with their computer support and setup, you can say you ease the stress of technology in their lives. By bringing the transformation into this part of your bio, your ideal client will be able to go onto your page and actually visualize what it will be like after working with you. The next part of your bio is your call to action, but I'm actually going to talk about that after we go over the link in your bio. So the best way to actually get sales for your business is by using the powerful tool of Instagram to funnel this audience to your paid offers. And the link in your bio is the primary way of doing this. Something that makes Instagram a really unique platform to market your business on is there's actually only three places you can put links on Instagram. Number one, the most popular and primary way of getting people off Instagram is the one in your bio. The second one is the link sticker that you can put in any of your stories. And the third way you can actually send a link is by sending it directly to someone in their direct messages. So back to the one in your bio, you are technically allowed to have multiple links in that bio. However, in my opinion, I find it really busy with more than one link and it kind of confuses people when they're coming onto your profile of which link they should be clicking. So if you wanna have multiple links in your bio, I recommend one of two things.
One, you could utilize a free platform called LinkTree, and this is just a way for you to put all of your links in one spot so it shows up as one link on your Instagram bio. Another way to do this is if you have access to the backend of your website or you can ask your website developer to help you. It's creating an unlinked page for your website to put all of your links on and then using that as the link in your bio. That's what I personally do for my Instagram, so that way all of the traffic does go to my website and then they can choose where they wanna go from there. So now that you know what kind of link or links you want to use in your bio, I'm gonna go over the call to action which goes right above that link.
You want to make this call to action something that directly relates to the primary offer in these links. If that is a lead magnet which grows your email list and that's what your goal is right now is just really growing that email list, then you're going to want to promote that freebie. Or if you really want someone to just directly book a call with you from your link, you're going want to put that in your bio as the call to action. And again, this is something you can change as your goals change. Let's say in the beginning you wanna just grow your email list, then maybe your goals change and you wanna send people straight to your website. You'd change your call to action with whatever your primary goal is with Instagram.

Now you know all the pieces that have to be in your actual Instagram bio. So let's go over some tips and tricks to actually optimize it. I always recommend including emojis in your bio because it really draws the eye. It also adds a really fun pop of color where you can take advantage of showing off your brand colors. Try to put your emojis either at the beginning or the end of each point you're making in your bio. Another commonly asked question I get is how to make multiple lines in your bio so it's not one continuous sentence. And this works for you in your captions too. A lot of people don't know that if you actually click the 1, 2, 3 button at the bottom right of your screen, it will show you the return button where you can add in a line break. This is great because it breaks up what you're putting in your bio and makes it easier to read for someone who's coming on your profile. Really quick, I'm gonna share some examples of really good Instagram bios that I've found and I'm going to walk you through why they're good. The first example I have for you is rover.com. I thought they did a good job with their bio. They say "Connecting dog and cat parents with loving pet sitters and dog walkers in their neighborhoods use hashtag rover sitter to be featured." So here they're very specific on who they're trying to work with and exactly what they do. And their call to action is to increase engagement by having people use the hashtag rover sitter to be featured and their link goes to their LinkTree, which will lead people to the next links they should go to after finding them on Instagram.
The next example is Best Buy. Their bio says, "We've got the tech to help you achieve life's little and big wins tag at Best Buy to share your tech with us." So they do a really good job of not just saying, oh, we sell tech. They also are trying to bring in the fact that they help you achieve life's wins through their tech. So they're really trying to show you what it would look like after you buy their products. And then their call to action is also to increase engagement by having people tag at Best Buy and then their link just goes to their store. The next example is later media. Their bio says "All-in-one social media marketing platform plan, publish and analyze your posts. Official meta, Pinterest and TikTok partner save time and start growing now." So they do a really good job of being very specific on what they provide and who they work with. And then their call to action is to save time and start growing by working with them. And it obviously shows the down emoji to press their bio, which leads you to all the links that show how you can work with them and the best places to go after finding them on Instagram.
And the last example I have is Tiffany and Co. I thought they did a good job with bringing emotion into their bio. They say "Expertly crafting jewelry for the world's greatest love stories since 1837." So they do a really great job of saying, again, they don't just sell jewelry, they sell jewelry for people in love and they're also doing it at the same time as really adding credibility since they've been around since 1837. Their link just goes to their shop.
