Marketing Lessons I Learned In Fiji | I Went To Fiji For My Honeymoon!
Welcome to marketing lessons I learned on my honeymoon! I just got married last month and my husband and I went to Fiji for our honeymoon. So I figured why not make a fun video about all the lessons I learned and how it applies to marketing your business.
My name is Megan and I help my clients go from confused to confident on social media. I help you build a loyal community, get more clients, and make your business more profitable.
One of the really fun things my husband and I did before we went on our honeymoon was get scuba certified. This was probably the smartest decision because scuba diving in Fiji was incredible. We ended up getting five Dives in on our trip so I figured let's go through some lessons that apply to scuba diving and to marketing.
So number one is you want to make sure you know exactly what your gear does and all of the rules of scuba diving. This is really important so obviously you survive down there and you have the best experience you possibly can. So how this applies to marketing is you need to know which platforms do what and a game plan for moving forward so that you're not just trying everything for your business and nothing sticking. For example, if you're trying to post a story on Instagram but you don't even know what a story really is then you're setting yourself up for failure before you even tried. I recommend doing your research or taking a course so that way you know what you're getting into before you actually spend your time on it. Okay next step is that you won't be perfect the first time you try it. This is very true on social media and marketing because the first time you try something will never be the best and that's okay you're learning, you're getting more practice, the most important part is actually getting yourself out there and making that first step so that way you can learn and be better the next time. This is very true with my experience of scuba diving. The very first time I got in the water I was very nervous I didn't necessarily know the best way to use all the gear I had on but every time I got in the water the more fun it got. Okay the next lesson is to not panic if things go wrong. If you're underwater and you start panicking you're going to go through your air supply really fast. I recommend calming yourself down, going back to the basics, and remembering what you've learned so that way you can try again. This is exactly what my clients come to me saying when they first try to market their business. There's too many options, they don't know which platforms to post on or what kinds of posts to make for their business. So go back to the basics, calm down, and try again. Also remember that you're never alone. While it may feel like you're the only one marking your business and struggling like this because you are the only one behind your screen when you're online, there are so many people out there in the same shoes as you. I recommend reaching out and trying to find an accountability partner just like scuba diving you're always going under with a buddy. While this is for safety purposes with scuba diving, it's just as important with marketing because they will hold you to your deadlines, they'll check in with you, and you feel like you have support from someone else going through this overwhelming process. And know that you will be pushed out of your comfort zone. Most of the people that come to me needing help are really struggling with showing up on camera. Whether it is to sound as confident and knowledgeable as they really are about their business, or they just don't like showing their face, conquering that fear is something that is inevitable and it has to happen. I know some people who would rather scuba dive with sharks rather than post their face on social media, but it's truly one of the best ways to build trust for your business. Faces are much more recognizable than logos. And guys, the more you learn, the more you practice, the more fun it gets. The more you're posting and getting out there you'll realize what's fun to you, what you like being creative doing, maybe you like posting on LinkedIn and Facebook but you hate Twitter and Instagram. You have to find what works for you and keep at it. Just like in scuba diving when you practice more and you learn more skills you get to go do more fun dives and explore different parts of the ocean that you wouldn't have been able to before.
Another part of Fiji that had the biggest impact on me was their people and their culture. At the resort we stayed at, all the neighboring villages actually came and performed their dances in front of us and sang in front of us and it was so amazing to experience how prideful they are of their culture. The second we got out of the bus from the airport they were instantly smiling and asking for our names and they never forgot our names the entire two weeks we were there. This is a huge lesson that you can implement into your business. Bringing a warm hospitality to everyone who approaches you in your business for your products or services can make a huge difference. Embracing warm and friendly customer service creates a welcoming atmosphere for your customers. The Fijians also had such a high sense of community and family that we don't usually see in other cultures. And building a sense of community around your brand and your business can be such a powerful marketing tool. Try engaging with your customers, clients, and community as if they're part of a bigger "business family." This can deepen your relationships with your current and past clients which will increase the amount of referrals you get for your business. And last but not least, show off your stuff. The Fijians are so proud of their Islands they live on and are not afraid to show them off whether it was hiking to a beautiful waterfall or partaking in a Kava Ceremony, we also got to see how chocolate is made on the island, they were so proud of everything that they have to offer on the islands and you should be too in your business. Make sure you show off all of your knowledge all of your value because it's so important what you have to say and what you bring to the table. There's so many clients and customers out there waiting for exactly what you do, so make sure you show it off and use it in your marketing.
