How To Get Over the Fear of Posting Content on Social Media as a Business Owner
Today we're taking a deep dive on the fear of posting on social media. If you've ever felt the pressure of posting on social media, you're definitely not alone. It is normal but I also want you to know that overcoming that fear is very possible. I'm sure you've seen people all over social media killing it (and making a lot of money while they do it) and you're thinking, "why can't that be me?" And the truth is it can be. So let's go through a few ways and some practical tips on how to turn that fear into confidence. Don't forget to hit the Subscribe button because I make videos like these every single week and you don't want to miss out. My name is Megan and I help business owners just like you build a loyal community, get more clients, and build a more profitable business.
So first off let's talk about the power of consistency. Did you know that businesses that post consistently receive an average of 3.5 times more engagement. So the key here is going to be starting small and staying consistent. This could be as simple as an industry tip, maybe behind the scenes of your business, or some testimonials of clients good feedback. Consistency will help normalize the process of posting on social media which will eventually become a habit which should overcome some of those fears. If you can realistically post maybe twice a week start there and as you get more comfortable and more efficient, when you're making these pieces of content you'll be able to make more in less amount of time. And this might seem like a lot of content. I know I come to my clients and I tell them to start posting consistently and they usually come back saying "What if no one cares about what I have to post?" And I struggle with this too sometimes but it really helps if you take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture. You are fully immersed in your specialty and your strengths every day that it becomes normal to you. You don't even realize how much knowledge you have to share. Your voice matters and people are out there waiting to hear what you have to say and how it helps them. So this is your sign to not wait any longer. The Content Marketing Institute found that businesses that publish consistent content see an average of 67% more leads. And if that doesn't convince you to post more then I don't know what will because I know all of us want to increase our business and get more leads from social media.
Secondly we're going to focus on authenticity and value. Social media anxiety is real and it's out there, but it's time to stop worrying about perfectionism and start posting. For me this really came from shifting my perspective from self-promotion to providing value. You're sharing your knowledge with the world and they are benefiting from what you have to say. So you want to share content that educates entertains or solves problems for your audience. By offering this valuable information, you establish credibility and create a positive brand perception. Authenticity, not perfection, is what actually resonates with your audience, making your posts more engaging and relatable. Studies show that actually 81% of customers need to trust the brand before they make the purchase. So having that consistency on top of that authenticity is what's really going to help your brand presence over time.
And this really leads me into point number three which is embracing your imperfections. I hear concerns almost every day from clients saying "What if I'm too old? What if I'm not attractive enough?" And let me tell you, age and appearance does not determine your success on social media. In fact people usually appreciate the authenticity and diversity and your own unique perspective. Your unique voice is your strength. So once you know that, you know it's okay to make mistakes and it's okay to show your imperfections, they actually make your brand more relatable. Don't let the fear of having the perfect post hinder your ability to actually make that post. Stop caring, start posting.
And the last point I'm going to go over is seeking guidance from experts. The great part about this is that you don't have to go on your social media journey alone. Another concern that I get asked a lot is "How do I know if I'm not wasting my time on social media?" And that's a great question because some people do waste their time on social media. They spend the entire time either scrolling through other people's content, or posting things that have nothing to do with their business or their goals. I highly recommend seeking out an expert and being able to have a mentor in your social media journey. This could involve hiring a social media consultant, a social media manager, maybe just attending some conferences or webinars, or maybe enrolling in a course. Experts can provide personalized guidance, share industry best practices, and offer constructive feedback. So this not only tells you the how-tos of why and what you're posting on social media, but it also gives you the confidence to know that what you're going to be doing every day is working. So you're not just posting thinking ‘oh is this a waste of my time’ you know what you're posting is going to have an impact on your audience. And I think having that clarity is the biggest shift that you have to make when it comes to overcoming the fear of posting. If you know it's going to be something that's impactful and your audience resonates with, what is there to be afraid of?
