What Content Should You Post On Social Media? Business Owner Content Ideas
So what content should you be posting on social media as a business owner? This is one of my most commonly asked generic questions so I figured I would make a whole post just on this. So I'm going to be going over four points, and generally all of your content should be answering at least one of these points if not more and then also be sure to read until the end because I'm going to have three very specific examples of things you could
My name is Megan and I help business owners go from confused to confident on social media I help you build a more loyal community, get quality clients, and build a more profitable business.
So number one is going to be showcasing your experience and out of all four points this is probably one of the most important pieces because it really just highlights your knowledge and your experience in your industry and this is crucial for getting people to trust you and actually want to spend their hard-earned money to work with you and invest in you. These pieces of content can include tips, how-to guides, and Industry updates. For example if you are a fitness coach this is where you can be posting workout routines and nutrition advice. This part of your content is really what's going to be positioning you as the expert in your field and building trust in community within your audience.
Number two is actually demonstrating your skills. So the first one was showing how much you know and the second one is putting that into action and kind of just proving your point. So perfect for this category would be showing before and afters of your client, client success stories, anything that visually demonstrates your unique skill set. And this can be challenging if your clients don't like being on camera or have to stay anonymous for some reason but there are ways around this like showing your process or giving behind the scenes of what you're doing throughout the day that prove how much you know and how skilled you are in that industry. For example if you are a graphic designer you can actually show a time lapse of your design process rather than the client's testimonial of how great it was. This still showcases your creativity and your technical skills without actually showing the client.
The third point is identifying who you can help. Sometimes I will go on an Instagram page and I know exactly what they do but I don't know who they want to work with. Your goal is to be creating content that speaks directly to your ideal client by highlighting their specific needs and wants. You should be doing this by pointing out their pain points and showing how you solve the specific problems that they're going through. This is also a great place to show client results and testimonials simply because it's showing what kind of clients you actually work with. This helps potential clients see themselves in your posts which makes them more likely to actually take action and work with you.
And this leads me into the fourth point which is highlighting the problems that you solve specifically. You not only want to post about what kind of challenges these people are going through but how you specifically attack that problem and create a solution for your clients. Ideally you want to use real life examples or case studies here to really show off exactly how you help them. For example if you are a photographer you can go through some common mistakes that other photographers go through and that clients may be experiencing when they get their photos and you can go through how your approach is different and what you do to make sure that that never happens for them.
So now that we've gone through all four of the really general concepts you need to be covering while you create content I'm going to walk you through three really specific examples to show you just how this can translate into actual content being shown on social media.
So example number one is actually posting an unpopular opinion about your industry. Unpopular opinions are really great for positioning yourself in your industry but also creating some conversation around your post which increases engagement. For example if you are a real estate agent and you want to post about an unpopular opinion maybe you find a news article or maybe someone else's post that has wrong information on it or maybe something that's not widely known. So if you're trying to explain how complicated or how challenging the home buying process can be and most people think it's just signing your name on a document you want to find a news article or post that contradicts what your own opinion is and maybe use that as a green screen behind you and you can talk about what's reality versus what's in this article. This piece of content is going to be simultaneously educational because you are showing them what the right opinion is but it also positions yourself as the expert by showing that look this is on the internet everywhere and you actually know better than that so that's why they should work with someone like you.
Example number two is a client success story this is pretty much just as it sounds you want to be explaining the success your client had after working specifically with you. For example if you are a lawyer you could actually go on social media and just film yourself talking and you want to say how your client was feeling when they came to you, what you did to help them, whether you saved them money maybe you saved them a giant headache maybe save give them time but you want to get that end result in there and that transformation. Bonus points if you actually put in a client testimonial at the end or even a picture of a happy client. I really recommend using a video form of content for this whether that's a Reel or a TikTok just because using your own voice is the best way to really showcase how you worked with them because no one else can explain it as well as you can.
And the third and final example is a fill-in-the blank graphic this is something that you can easily create in canva in under 5 minutes. But for example if you are a confidence coach you want to really increase engagement and also get feedback from your audience of what they're struggling with or what makes them actually feel confident you can create a fill in- the blank graphic which prompts them to comment what makes them feel confident and this will actually show how much you care about what makes other people feel confident and you'll be creating a conversation around the topic of confidence and its importance in your life which will increase your sense of community on the platform.
By focusing on all of these points you're not only showcasing your amazing presence on social media but also how you add value to your audience's lives.
