How I PLAN MY CONTENT for Youtube, Instagram, TikTok & More! | Content Creation for Business Owners
If you're looking to be more consistent on social media and create the most amount of posts for the least amount of effort possible, this is the right article for you. Hi, my name is Megan and I help business owners go from confused to confident on social media. I help you create a loyal community, get quality clients, and build a more profitable business. I've spent over 3 years creating content for my business and I have finally found a formula that really helps me save time and stay consistent. In fact I get questions all the time about how I plan out my content and how I make sure that I keep it going consistently. So I'm going to walk you through every single part of the process and while this is what works for me, keep in mind that something different might work for you in your business because everyone's different and works in different ways this is just what works for me.
So let's get right into it! The very first step which is the most important is deciding who exactly you're talking to. You want to find out who your ideal client is and act like you're speaking to them the entire time you're creating content. This will help you be very specific with the messaging and be able to call out to who those people are so that way they feel like you're talking directly to them while they're watching. Now that you know what you do and exactly who you're talking to, finding out how to reach them is the next step. So you want to find the topics that you'll be discussing in your content and the best key keywords to describe them. There's a lot of ways to do this, but basically what I do is I pull ideas from frequently asked questions that I get from my current clients, questions I get in my direct messages from followers, and then what I personally think people need to know before working with me. I like going through and creating as many points as I can on those three lists. Let's say I have 10 in each list I throw them into chat GPT and ask it to expand these lists for me so if I throw in 10 ideas I will ask for 30 back. Basically it will break down each content idea and give me three content ideas from that one. So for example, instead of just saying 'Instagram tips' it's going to be 'Instagram tips for business owners who sell their services' so that way my messaging is more specific. Keep in mind that the more information you give chat gpt, the better results you'll actually get. If you know the habits and hobbies of the exact type of person you're trying to reach, add that in. This might create more in-depth and real content ideas for you to work with. Now that you have tripled your content ideas, it's time to go into the plan category. This is where you have to set goals for yourself and actually stick to them. You have plenty of ideas to pull from, the question is not what to post, it's how often can you post. I always tell my clients that consistency is way more more important than quantity. So make sure you're doing something that's actually realistic for your schedule or then odds are after a month or two you're going to get burnt out. So for you, if that looks like posting three times a week, then you're posting three times a week and you're sticking to it no excuses. But like always, it's not that simple. You have to decide how often you're posting, but also to which platforms you're posting. So I'm going to break down how I plan my content with the platforms I post on, and you can adjust this for you and the platforms that you use. For me, I use YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Pinterest. And when I go to plan my content, first I pull up my list of ideas I pick one that I think would be a good YouTube video, that is always where I start. And I personally use two different tools for this. One, I use Google Trends. I will type in my title or my idea and see if people have been searching for this. Since Google is the number one search engine, you will see a lot of trends there. Next, I also use Tube Buddy which is a YouTube only tool and this allows me to see how different search terms rank within YouTube. And since YouTube is the second biggest search engine, this is also a really great place to look. Once I decide this topic is worth creating a video about, then I create a title and I start scripting my video. For me, scripting looks like bullet points that I follow along while I'm filming the video, but some people have to write it word for word and others don't use a script at all, so you have to find what works for you here. Once I feel like I'm ready to film, I set up my camera, my lighting and make sure I feel confident and comfortable enough to film. I tend to film on the days of the week that I have the most amount of energy so you need to find out when you're most likely to actually film something so you will be able to follow through. If I plan to film something on a day that's just too busy and I'm too tired there's no way I'm actually going to do it. So making sure you plan ahead and block it out of your schedule will save you in the future. Keep in mind that you can redo videos as many times as you need to and edit out any portions you don't like so there's really no pressure here, it's just about you getting comfortable and making sure that you can get a good final product. Once I'm done filming on my YouTube vlogging camera, I will then switch to my phone and film some reels. What you're going to do when you're filming your reels is you're going to use the same topic as your YouTube video but film it in really short different fun videos. Reels are meant to be very eye-catching because they're shown to an audience that doesn't know you yet so you want to make sure you're changing up how you talk, different angles, maybe using some trends that are fun in your reals, so it will be a different format but you're going to be using the same content idea. I have a FREE Reels Webinar you can watch that goes through the different types of reels and how to use them as a business owner so make sure you give that a watch after this video. You can also create a carousel post walking through your different points of your YouTube video that you can post in the same week. Once you filmed your YouTube video and your reels, it's time to edit. And editing is something that gets better with practice and quicker with practice, so I really recommend using an app like capcut. It's nice because you can use it on your phone or on your desktop, but it's really great for making quick cuts and adding some fun effects while being very user-friendly. Editing YouTube videos can be a big time commitment so make sure you know that before you start posting on YouTube, but things like reels and Tiktoks don't take as long so it's easier to make more of them. Once I'm done editing, first I post the YouTube video. I upload it, write out my description, my tags, my title, and then I use that to actually create the caption for my reels. So I'll take the different parts of the description and the different tags that correlate to different topics within my video and assign them to the correct reel. If you're someone who really struggles with hashtags, I have a separate video about that as well. It's about the best prompt to add to chat GPT to make sure you get actual quality hashtags. So make sure you check that out as well. I also then promote my new YouTube video in an Instagram story and a Facebook post. Then it's time to repurpose the content from the YouTube video and the reels you made. I take the subtitles from my YouTube and I turn that into a Blog that I put on my website, I then take the blog and I plug that into chat GPT and have it create an email template for me. So then I can take that template that's very specific to my video and add in whatever I want to send to my subscribers. I'll then post the reels to Instagram and then if these reels apply, I will repost them to TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube shorts. But the point here is to post your content to as many different platforms as you can because you spent all that time filming it, you might as well have it reach the most amount of people possible. So all of that content just came from one of those topics and you have so many to choose from if you did the research in the beginning. So I know you have no excuse for coming up with content ideas and figuring out how to plan and make them last as long as as they can.
Don't forget to watch that Free Reels Webinar so you can learn which reels are going to perform best for your business. Thank you so much guys.
